Question Details
December 4th I got an avulsion fracture from bursting into a sprint. At the time everyone thought it was just a big muscle injury, soft tissue damage, I was told. Well, a month later I recieved X-rays that revealed a possible avulsion fracture. After an MRI, it was confirmed I had a small avulsion fracture on the left side of my hip. I have to use crutches for a little while to see if I get better, but if I don't, I'll need surgery, so my question is, what do they do, how do they do it, and how long until full recovery if I undergo the surgery? I also can walk on it with slight pain however running is extremely difficult.

Just incase you aren't sure what you are suffering with is..

An avulsion fracture is an injury to the bone in a place where a tendon or ligament attaches to the bone. When an avulsion fracture occurs, the tendon or ligament pulls off a piece of the bone.

If they have to perform surgery, they will reattach the Ligament/Tendon to the bone it was originally attached to. They'll use metal pins (Like with every other bone related surgery) and you won't feel a thing. You'll be knocked out and put on Painkillers and medication to prevent infection.

Don't worry :]
